没有 (méi yǒu) is the negation of 有 (yǒu, to have) and forms one of the most essential negative structures in Mandarin. It means do not have (没有钱, have no money) or have not done (没有吃, have not eaten). Before verbs it serves as the perfect aspect negator, contrasting with 没 alone (colloquially shortened). 没有 can also be shortened to 没 (méi) in speech. The question form is 有没有? (do you have or not?).
