By using Kilo Lingo you agree to the following terms.

1. About These Terms

These Terms of Service govern your use of Kilo Lingo. By accessing or using the Site you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Who we are. Kilo Lingo is a trading name of Michael McGettrick, a sole trader, of 14 Fairfax Close, Reading, RG4 6DA, United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@kilolingo.com.

2. Use of the Site

You may use the Site for your personal, non-commercial education only. You must not:

• Copy, reproduce, or republish content from the Site without our prior written permission
• Use automated tools (crawlers, scrapers, bots) to harvest content in bulk
• Use the Site in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its operation
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Site

3. Intellectual Property

All editorial content on the Site (articles, calculators, code, original images) is owned by or licensed to Kilo Lingo and is protected by UK and international copyright law. You may share links and quote brief excerpts with clear attribution and a link back to the original.

Translations of common phrases, public-domain texts, and standard reference material (CEFR descriptors, FSI categories) are not claimed as proprietary; the editorial commentary and the page structure are.

4. Educational Content Disclaimer

Content on this Site is published for educational purposes only. It is a self-directed learning resource, not formal language tuition. For certification (DELE, DELF, HSK, etc.) use the official testing bodies. For one-to-one teaching use a qualified teacher.

Translations and pronunciation guides are provided in good faith and reflect typical usage. Regional variation, register, and context change what is appropriate; the editorial notes on each page flag where this matters.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Kilo Lingo and its operators shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the Site or reliance on any content here.

6. Third-Party Links

The Site may contain links to third-party websites. These are provided for convenience only. We have no control over linked sites and accept no responsibility for them.

7. Affiliate Links

Some links on the Site are affiliate or referral links (to language courses, tutoring marketplaces, app subscriptions, books, or travel services). If you click an affiliate link and subsequently sign up for or purchase the linked product or service, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links help fund the editorial content here. They do not influence which products we cover or what we say about them.

8. Emails

We do not run a mailing list you can join without an account. If you have one, we send you emails about the account itself, including a short onboarding sequence during your free trial and a note before the trial ends. We also offer learning emails, words and a daily grammar tip, which are off until you switch them on.

You can change or stop any of it at any time in your email settings. Our Privacy Policy explains what we store and on what legal basis.

9. Accounts, Free Trial and Kilo Lingo Plus

Creating an account starts a 7-day free trial of Kilo Lingo Plus. We do not ask for card details to begin the trial, there is nothing to cancel if you do nothing, and no charge is made when it ends.

After the trial, Kilo Lingo Plus costs $5 per month or $50 per year, billed in advance and renewing automatically until you cancel. Payments are taken by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.

Currency. Prices are charged in your local currency where we offer one: £3.99, €4.99, C$6.99, A$7.99 per month, or £39.99, €49.99, C$69.99, A$79.99 per year, in pounds, euros, Canadian and Australian dollars respectively. Everywhere else they are charged in US dollars. The currency and any taxes are shown at checkout before you pay, and a subscription renews in the currency it started in.

Classrooms. The Tutor plan (up to 10 students) costs $15 per month or $150 per year, and the Teacher plan (up to 40 students) $50 per month or $500 per year, in US dollars or the local equivalent in the same currencies as Plus. They are billed, renewed and cancelled the same way as Plus. A teacher plan includes the teacher's own Plus and gives Plus to the students in their classes while the plan is active. If you already pay for Plus, we cancel that Plus subscription when your first teacher plan payment is taken, and the unused part of it is credited against your teacher plan invoices; if the teacher plan later ends, Plus ends with it. If you pay for Plus and join a class that gives you Plus, we pause your Plus subscription while the class covers you, so you are not charged for it; it restarts when the class stops covering you, and if a payment date passed during the pause, a new billing period starts that day.

Launch prices. The Plus, Tutor and Teacher prices above are launch prices, offered to new subscribers until 1 December 2026. From that date a new subscription costs $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year for Plus, $23.99 per month or $239.99 per year for Tutor, and $79.99 per month or $799.99 per year for Teacher (in US dollars; the pound, euro, Canadian and Australian dollar prices rise too, and checkout always shows the price before you pay). If you subscribe before then, you keep the price you subscribed at, including when you switch between monthly and yearly billing, for as long as your subscription continues. If it ends and you subscribe again later, the price on offer at that time applies.

If you do not subscribe, your account is not deleted and your progress is not lost. Chapters 1 and 2 of every course are completely free, forever: every lesson, game, quiz, certificate, printable download and recording in them keeps working and saving, with its XP and your streak, and reviewing their words stays unlimited. Everything beyond them becomes read-only: you can still see every word, lesson, story and streak you have recorded, but new progress there is no longer saved, and the printable downloads and the daily review beyond chapters 1 and 2 are paused until you subscribe.

Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from your account area, which opens the Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep full access until then. Cancelling a yearly plan stops the next yearly renewal; it does not end the year you have already paid for.

Your 14-day right to cancel. If you live in the UK or the EU, you have a legal right to cancel a new subscription within 14 days of your first payment and get your money back. The same applies for 14 days after each yearly renewal. To use it, email hello@kilolingo.com from the address on your account within those 14 days, saying you want to cancel. You do not need to give a reason. We will cancel the subscription and refund the payment to the card you paid with within 14 days of your email.

Other refunds. Outside those 14 days we do not refund the unused part of a month or a year after you cancel, except in exceptional circumstances. The free week exists so you can decide before paying anything. If you think your situation is exceptional, or you have any other query about billing, write to hello@kilolingo.com and a human will read it and reply. None of this limits any other right you have under consumer law.

Price changes. If we change the price of Kilo Lingo Plus we will tell existing subscribers by email before it takes effect, and you are free to cancel before it does.

10. Availability

We aim to keep the Site available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, this does not take away the protection of the consumer law where you live, or your right to bring a claim in your local courts.
