Why learn with Kilo Lingo?
Because the order you learn words in matters. The 1,000 most frequent words of a language make up roughly 80% of the words you hear in everyday speech, yet most apps will happily spend your first month on zoo animals and coloured shirts. That's a waste of your evenings, so we built the whole site the other way round.
The syllabus is a frequency list
Every course follows a real frequency list (words ranked by how often native speakers use them), and each chapter teaches the next batch in order, up to 5,000 words. You learn "I need" long before "elephant".
Stories you can read
Our graded readers are written to a strict vocabulary ceiling. A core-1000 story may only use the 1,000 most common words, and an automated check refuses to publish one that cheats. You finish whole stories at your level instead of drowning in a dictionary.
Nothing you learn is left to rot
Meeting a word once is not knowing it. Spaced repetition runs underneath every drill and review, bringing each word back at growing intervals. It is how what you learnt last month stays with you next month.
The most frequent 1,000 English word families make up about 81-84% of the running words in spoken English (Nation, 2006); the exact share differs by language. Sources and their limits are on the methodology page.
