Every word with recorded audio, spaced repetition underneath. Start with a free week, then $5 a month - or $50 a year, twelve months for the price of ten. Most other language apps charge double that for one language, then spend it teaching you low-frequency words like "giraffe" and "mango". None of that here: every Kilo Lingo course is built straight off a frequency list, so you learn the words you will actually use first. Best bang for your buck, and your time.
Cancel any time. Your progress is never deleted - it just pauses if you stop.
One hour with a tutor costs more than three months of this - for all six languages, not one.
Free and Plus, side by side
The reading is free forever - that is the point of the site. Plus is the audio, the practice, the emails and everything you can print, export or frame.

Why learn with Kilo Lingo?
Because word order matters - not in the sentence, in the syllabus. The most frequent 1,000 words of a language do roughly 80% of the work in everyday speech, yet most apps will happily spend your first month on zoo animals and coloured shirts. We think that is a waste of your evenings, and we built the whole site on the alternative.
The syllabus is a frequency list
Every course walks a real frequency list - words ranked by how often native speakers actually use them - and each chapter teaches the next batch in order, up to the 5,000 that carry you to real fluency. You learn "I need" long before "elephant". No themed detours through the zoo.
Stories you can actually read
Our graded readers are written to a strict vocabulary ceiling - a core-1000 story may only use the 1,000 most common words - and an automated check refuses to publish any story that cheats. You finish whole stories at your level instead of drowning in a dictionary.
Nothing you learn is left to rot
Meeting a word once is not knowing it. Spaced repetition runs underneath every drill and review, bringing each word back on schedule just before you would forget it - so what you learnt last month is still there next month.
Coverage figure from Nation (2006): the most frequent 1,000 word-families cover 81-84% of spoken English (BNC). Comparable figures hold across major languages by Zipf's law.
Everything Plus switches on, in detail
Audio on every word Members only
Recorded pronunciation across all six courses: each word spoken alone, then inside a real sentence, then alone again. Stories read themselves aloud too. The first two chapters play free; Plus turns the other 15,000 words on.
212 graded readers
Stories written to a vocabulary ceiling, so you read at your level instead of drowning in a dictionary. Free to read forever; the comprehension drill each one ends in is part of Plus beyond chapter 2.
Printable PDFs and worksheets Members only
Worksheets, cheatsheets and bilingual story PDFs for every lesson, story and word. Print them, teach from them, keep them.
367 grammar lessons
Across six languages, free to read forever. Each one ends in interactive exercises that make the rule stick - the practice is the Plus half.
Drills on 15,902 words
Recognise it, recall it, type it, build it from tiles, take it by ear. Spaced repetition decides what comes back and when.
Audio training - coming soon Members only
Speak into your microphone and get feedback on your pronunciation, checked against the course's own recordings. Rolling out now as an experimental Plus feature.
Unlimited review Members only
Free accounts review 20 due words a day; Plus reviews everything, every day. Spaced repetition works best when nothing due gets left behind.
Daily vocabulary emails Members only
Your next words in your inbox. Choose the language, how many, and daily or weekly. Sends pause if a trial lapses and resume with Plus, exactly where they stopped.
Daily grammar tips Members only
One grammar point a day, drawn from the same 367 articles and pitched at the level you are actually at. Per language, daily or weekly.
Seven games Members only
Crossword, sentence scramble, tone bubbles, gender sprint, conjugation drill, word trader and the daily word - all built from the vocabulary you are actually learning. Members also appear on the weekly leaderboard by name.
Chapter certificates Members only
Pass a chapter quiz, print the proof: a clean, dated certificate with your name on it for every chapter badge you earn.
Export your words Members only
Every word you are learning as a CSV that drops straight into Anki or a spreadsheet. Your vocabulary is yours - this hands you the file.
