Four ways to think

English says I think for almost everything. German splits it.

is for beliefs about facts you are not sure of. , er is I think he is coming tomorrow, but I would not bet on it. It also means to believe in, as in God.

is thinking as an activity: an , I am thinking of you. It can do the opinion job too, but and are usually more natural.

means to think in the sense of to mean, to have a view: Was ? is what do you think?, and also what do you mean? is opinion, the noun. , in my opinion, is how a German opens a considered argument.

Agreeing

Disagreeing

is wrong, is right, is true and is the truth. is that is not true. is nonsense, and it is informal and rather satisfying to say.

The hedges

is maybe, is probably, is certainly or sure. means actually, but it is really a softener: is I do not really have time, said by someone who might be persuaded. is honest, and is to be honest, which usually comes just before the opinion you were not going to like.
