Spanish 路 Chapter 22 路 Lesson 4 路 Grammar primer

Se unplanned events

On the AQA A-level grammar list.

The short version

The glass fell itself on me

The accidental se lets the mishap happen by itself and merely notes who was unlucky enough to be nearby, so se me cay贸 el vaso says 'I dropped the glass' with no confession attached. The catch is agreement: the thing is the grammatical subject, so the verb matches it and not you. Never se me ca铆.

Se me cayeron los vasos.

I dropped the glasses.

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
