- First words for sentencesVocabulary
10 words · Yo (I) and tu (your: tu casa, your house), a few verbs, the things they act on. Enough to build a real Spanish sentence by the end. The 'you' word, tú, comes with the other pronouns in chapter 2.
Hola, buenos días, buenas noches, hasta luego: fixed phrases you can say to a real Spanish speaker today, before any grammar.

Thank you, please, sorry and the beginner's most useful sentence, no entiendo: the words Spanish speakers notice when they are missing.
Spanish runs subject, verb, object, like English, and usually drops the subject: hablo español, not yo hablo español.
Describing words follow the noun: la casa blanca, el libro grande. Words that count or point stay in front, as in English.
Spanish has no do or does. No goes straight before the verb, and a yes or no question keeps the statement order: ¿Hablas español?

The and a, in both genders and the plural: el libro, la casa, los libros, unas casas. The noun picks the article.
Spanish keeps the article for things in general, days and body parts, and drops it for a bare job after ser: me gustan los perros, es médico.
