Spanish · Chapter 31 · Lesson 9 · Common mistake
lo or el?
One points at a thing you could count. The other never does.
The rule
el goes with a masculine noun: el libro, el coche. lo goes with an adjective and turns it into an ABSTRACT idea: lo bueno is the good part, what is good about it. lo never points at a thing you could count, which is why lo libro is impossible and lo importante is everyday.
