/kʌnt/
Translation
The strongest word in English: a very crude word for a woman's genitals, used as a savage insult. In the United States it is heard as an attack on women and is close to unsayable; in Britain and Australia it is usually aimed at men and can even pass as rough affection between old friends. Anywhere, it can end the conversation. Recognise it, never say it.
Word origin
From Middle English cunte, from an old Germanic root. It sat in ordinary English street names in the 1200s and only became unprintable in the 1700s.
