Numbers
On the AQA A-level grammar list.
The short version
Veintidós is one word, treinta y dos is three
Spanish fuses sixteen to nineteen and twenty-one to twenty-nine into single words: dieciséis, veintidós, veintiocho. From thirty-one the fusing stops and every number is tens, y, units. The y only ever joins tens to units, so 101 is ciento uno, never ciento y uno.
treinta y dos
Cien alone, ciento when more follows
A hundred is cien on its own and straight before a noun, mil or millones: cien años, cien mil. The moment a smaller number follows, it becomes ciento: ciento uno, ciento cincuenta. And mil never goes plural: two thousand is dos mil, not dos miles.
cien años
That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
