Cases

Prescribed by the Edexcel specification - revisited.

The short version

The endings replace the articles you do not have

Russian has no word for the or a, because the case ending already says what job the noun is doing. English spends word order, articles and little words like to and of on the same task. Neither language is doing more work; they are spending the same budget differently.

Skazhi mne.

Tell me.

Six cases is fewer endings than it sounds

The tables look punishing and the reality is not: the endings overlap heavily, the genitive and accusative are identical for a large class of nouns, and the plurals collapse further still. The honest count a beginner needs is a couple of dozen forms, not thirty-six, and they repeat in patterns.

Ya znayu.

I know.

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
