Relative demonstrative pronouns

Prescribed by the Edexcel specification.

The short version

Kotorogo zovut Andrey is a fixed phrase worth learning

Naming a friend needs kotorogo, not kotoryy, because the friend is the animate direct object of zovut: drug, kotorogo zovut Andrey. Learn kotorogo zovut as one block rather than working out the case fresh each time you introduce someone.

Moy drug, kotorogo zovut Andrey.

My friend, who is called Andrey.

Kotoryy never disappears the way which does in English

English happily drops which or that: the book I am reading. Russian never drops kotoryy, and it always follows a comma. Write the comma and the word together, every time, and the sentence will read naturally rather than clipped.

Kniga, kotoruyu ya chitayu.

The book that I am reading.

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
