The New Neighbour

Story

A new family moves in next door. Tom sees a big truck at the house. Two men carry many boxes in. A boy stands outside. He looks at Tom over the wall.

Tom is quiet. The boy is quiet too. Tom raises his hand. The boy raises his hand too. "I am Tom," Tom says. "I am Sam," the boy says. "We live next door now."

Sam's family has many boxes. The boxes are big. "Can I help?" Tom asks. "Thank you," says Sam's mother. Tom and Sam carry the boxes to the door. They carry books, games, and many things. The work is hard, but they are happy.

After the boxes, Tom is tired. Sam is tired too. They sit outside and rest. "This is a good house," Sam says. "I like it here." Tom smiles. "I live next door. We can play here every day."

Tom's mother comes to the wall. She has some food for the new family. "This is for you," she says. She gives the food to Sam's family. "Thank you, this is so kind," says Sam's mother. The two mothers talk and laugh. They share the food and drink tea together.

The next day, Sam comes to Tom's house. He has a ball. The two boys play outside in the sun. They run and jump and laugh. Sam's little sister comes too. She is small, but she can play. She kicks the ball and smiles.

Soon the two families do many things together. They eat dinner outside. The mothers share food and talk for hours. The children play every week. Tom and Sam become good friends.

One evening, Tom sits by the wall. He thinks about the new family. Before, the house next door was quiet. Now it is full of sound and life. A new family is here, and they are kind.

"I am happy Sam lives next door," Tom says to his mother. His mother smiles. "A good family next door is a good thing," she says. Tom looks over the wall at Sam's house. He raises his hand, and Sam does the same. They live next door now, and they are friends.
