is prettiness with warmth in it, a step gentler than and much less grand than . It applies happily to people, places and evenings alike. The noun ĉarmo covers both the abstract quality and, in older or more literary texts, the old sense of a magic charm or spell, which is where the word came from in the first place. Ĉarmi is to charm someone, and a exists for when restraint has gone entirely. Be aware that, as in English, calling a grown woman can land as patronising depending on who says it.
