Folium, folii, n., second declension. The leaf on a tree first, and then by the obvious step the leaf of a book - a sheet counted on both sides, which is why manuscripts are cited by folio number with recto and verso rather than by page. Latin folium and Greek phyllon are the same inherited word, so chlorophyll and folio are distant cousins.
The plural folia was reanalysed in Vulgar Latin as a feminine singular and gave French feuille, Italian foglia and Spanish hoja, and through French English took foil and foliage. For foliage as a mass, the leafy top of a tree, Latin more often reaches for frons, frondis, f. - not to be confused with frons, frontis, f., "forehead", which this corpus also carries. Same nominative, different genitive.
