Quaero, quaerere, quaesivi, quaesitum is third conjugation and does two jobs. It hunts for something, with the thing sought in the accusative, and it asks a question. In the asking sense the person questioned goes into a prepositional phrase, ab, ex or de with the ablative: quaesivit ex me, "he asked me". Put the person straight into the accusative and you are looking for him, not interviewing him, which is a distinction worth keeping straight.
The compounds are everywhere: requiro, inquiro, acquiro, and the participle exquisitus. English question, quest, inquire, require, conquer and exquisite all descend from the family.
