Soleo, solere, solitus sum. Second conjugation and semi-deponent: active in form throughout the present system, but the perfect is built from the participle, so "he was accustomed" is solitus est and there is no perfect in -ui at all.
It takes a complementary infinitive and does the job English gives to "usually", "tends to" and "used to", since Latin has no separate habitual tense: dicere solet, "he tends to say". The participle solitus works as a plain adjective, "usual, customary", and its ablative solito supplies the comparison plus solito, "more than usual". It has nothing to do with solus, "alone", however alike the two look on the page.
