Ch 11 · Lesson 7

Wulun buguan

Prescribed by the AQA specification.

The short version

(bùguǎn) needs an open middle, then (dōu)

,。Bùguǎn tā duō máng, tā dōu huì lái.

However busy he is, he'll come.
Why?

(bùguǎn) or (wúlùn), 'no matter', needs a middle with more than one answer: a question word, an A-not-A such as (qù bu qù), or a (háishi) choice. (dōu) follows the subject of the second half. (bùguǎn tā hěn máng) is closed: say (bùguǎn tā duō máng).

(bùguǎn) covers every case; (jíshǐ), one

,。Jíshǐ hěn guì, wǒ yě mǎi.

Even if it's expensive, I'll buy it.
Why?

(bùguǎn) takes an open middle and (dōu): (bùguǎn duō guì), (wǒ dōu mǎi), whatever it costs, I'm buying it. (jíshǐ), 'even if', concedes one plain case and takes (yě). And (wúlùn rúhé) means 'whatever happens'.

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
