Ch 4 · Lesson 9

Demonstrative forms

Prescribed by the AQA specification.

The short version

(zhè) and (nà) need a measure word before a noun

,。Wǒ yào zhège, bú yào nàge.

I want this one, not that one.
Why?

Before a noun, (zhè) and (nà) normally take a measure word: (zhège rén), this person, is this + measure word + noun. For the plural, (xiē) replaces the measure word: (zhè xiē rén), these people. Alone, (zhè ge) and (nà ge) mean this one and that one.

That's the gist. The full article goes deeper - more examples, the edge cases, the why - and the practice below scores like a vocabulary session and earns the same XP.
