Story

美měi玲líng和hé小xiǎo高gāo是shì老lǎo朋péng友yǒu。小xiǎo时shí候hòu，她tā们men一yì起qǐ住zhù在zài这zhè个ge小xiǎo城chéng市shì里lǐ。

Meiling and Xiao Gao are old friends. As children, they lived together in this small city.

后hòu来lái小xiǎo高gāo离lí开kāi了liǎo，走zǒu到dào了liǎo很hěn远yuǎn的de地dì方fāng。她tā在zài外wài面miàn工gōng作zuò，在zài外wài面miàn生shēng活huó。

Later Xiao Gao left and went to faraway places. She worked out there, she lived out there.

美měi玲líng一yì直zhí住zhù在zài这zhè里lǐ，没méi有yǒu走zǒu。今jīn年nián小xiǎo高gāo回huí来lái了liǎo，两liǎng个gè人rén见jiàn面miàn了liǎo。

Meiling stayed here the whole time and never left. This year Xiao Gao has come back, and the two of them meet.

她tā们men一yì起qǐ喝hē茶chá，讲jiǎng起qǐ了liǎo那nà件jiàn事shì。「你nǐ还hái想xiǎng得dé起qǐ来lái吗ma？」美měi玲líng说shuō。

They drink tea together and start talking about that one matter. "Do you still remember?" Meiling says.

那nà天tiān，两liǎng个gè孩hái子zi早zǎo上shàng出chū去qù，一yì直zhí向xiàng前qián走zǒu。路lù上shang有yǒu花huā，有yǒu水shuǐ。

That day, the two children went out in the morning and kept walking forward. Along the way there were flowers, there was water.

「我wǒ想xiǎng起qǐ来lái了liǎo，」小xiǎo高gāo说shuō，「我wǒ们men走zǒu得dé很hěn远yuǎn，很hěn累lèi，可kě是shì很hěn高gāo兴xìng。」

"I remember," Xiao Gao says. "We walked a long way; we were tired, but so happy."

美měi玲líng笑xiào了liǎo。「我wǒ当dāng时shí觉jué得de，走zǒu到dào那nà里lǐ就jiù是shì看kàn到dào了liǎo全quán世shì界jiè。」

Meiling smiles. "Back then I felt that reaching that place was like seeing the whole world."

这zhè些xiē年nián，小xiǎo高gāo去qù过guò很hěn多duō地dì方fāng，看kàn过guò很hěn多duō人rén。

Over these years, Xiao Gao has been to many places and seen many people.

美měi玲líng没méi有yǒu走zǒu，她tā想xiǎng：别bié人rén都dōu去qù过guò那nà么me远yuǎn的de地dì方fāng，而ér我wǒ自zì己jǐ哪nǎ里lǐ也yě没méi有yǒu去qù。

Meiling did not leave, and she thinks: everyone else has been so far away, while I myself have been nowhere.

小xiǎo高gāo听tīng了liǎo，对duì她tā说shuō：「其qí实shí那nà件jiàn事shì，我wǒ心xīn里lǐ也yě一yì直zhí想xiǎng着zhe。」

Hearing this, Xiao Gao says to her: "Actually, that matter has stayed in my heart all along too."

「我wǒ走zǒu了liǎo那nà么me远yuǎn，可kě是shì最zuì想xiǎng的de，还hái是shì那nà天tiān早zǎo上shàng的de路lù。」

"I have gone so far, but what I miss most is still the road we walked that morning."

美měi玲líng心xīn里lǐ一yī动dòng。她tā现xiàn在zài才cái明míng白bái：她tā们men记jì得de的de，是shì同tóng一yī件jiàn事shì。

Something stirs in Meiling's heart. Only now does she understand: what they both remember is the same matter.

小xiǎo高gāo去qù了liǎo远yuǎn的de地dì方fāng，美měi玲líng留liú在zài这zhè里lǐ，可kě是shì她tā们men心xīn里lǐ的de世shì界jiè是shì一yí样yàng的de。

Xiao Gao went far away and Meiling stayed here, but the world in their hearts is the same.

真zhēn正zhèng的de那nà件jiàn事shì，不bù在zài很hěn远yuǎn的de地dì方fāng，就jiù在zài两liǎng个gè孩hái子zi一yì起qǐ走zǒu过guò的de家jiā。

The real matter is not somewhere far away; it is in the home that the two children once walked through together.
