Story

The school is going to hold a race to see who runs fastest. Xiaohua really wants to take part, but he does not dare. He is afraid he will fail, afraid the others will laugh at him.

His friend Dali says: "You should give it a try. If you don't dare to start, you'll never know the answer." His words make Xiaohua think for a long time.

From that day on, Xiaohua goes training every day. He runs in the morning and runs in the evening too. At the start, he runs very slowly. Sometimes he really wants to give up.

The first day of the race arrives. Xiaohua is very nervous. But he has only run a short while before he fails: he is the last one to arrive. He feels very sad.

After three months of training, Xiaohua runs better and better. Slowly he understands: every failure makes him stronger.

In the second year's race, Xiaohua takes part again. This time, he is not afraid. He uses all his strength and is the first to arrive! He wins first place.

Xiaohua finds Dali and says to him: "Thank you. If it weren't for you, I would have given up long ago." Dali smiles: "You did this yourself."
