好奇(hào qí) - curious, inquisitive in Mandarin

好奇 (hàoqí) is curious in the healthy sense: interested, wanting to know. It behaves like any adjective, so it takes 很 (hěn) before it and 地 (de) when it modifies a verb: 好奇地问 (hàoqí de wèn, to ask curiously).

To say what you are curious about, use 对 (duì): 对历史好奇 (duì lìshǐ hàoqí). The noun is 好奇心 (hàoqí xīn, curiosity), which is what you have rather than what you are.

The tone is the trap. 好 here is fourth tone hào, the "to like" reading, not the third tone hǎo of 好吃. Say hǎoqí and a listener will hesitate before working out what you meant.
