坏处(huài chù) - disadvantage, drawback, harm in Mandarin

坏处 (huàichù) means "disadvantage, drawback, harm", the direct opposite of 好处 (hǎochù, benefit, advantage). 坏 (huài) means "bad" and 处 (chù) means "point, place", so the compound is literally a "bad point".

It is almost always used in the paired structure 好处和坏处 (hǎochù hé huàichù), "advantages and disadvantages", the standard way to weigh something up in Chinese, whether the topic is smoking, a new policy, or staying up late.

Note the tone on 处 (chù): it is a falling fourth tone here, the same reading as in 好处 (hǎochù). Do not confuse it with the rising second tone of 除 (chú, to remove) in 删除 (shānchú, to delete), which looks similar in pinyin without tone marks.
