Examples

We need more information before we can judge.

His judgement is always very sound.

How do you tell that this is true?

It is hard to judge whether what he says is true.

The doctor reached a judgement based on the test results.

判断 (pàn duàn) is to work out what is the case from the evidence in front of you, and as a noun it is the judgement you reach. A doctor, a referee and a shopper deciding whether fruit is ripe all 判断.

It doubles as a noun without changing form: 做出判断 is to make a judgement, 判断力 is judgement as a faculty, and 他的判断很准 praises someone for reading a situation well.

The trap is that English judge covers three separate Mandarin words. 判断 is assessing evidence. 决定 is deciding what to do. And judging someone morally is 评价 or 批评. A courtroom judge is 法官, a noun, and never 判断.
