舞台 (wǔ tái) is a stage: the raised platform in a theatre, a concert hall or a school assembly. The 舞 is historical rather than literal, so a stage is 舞台 whether anyone dances on it or not.
The figurative use carries over neatly from English. 国际舞台 is the international stage, and 给年轻人一个舞台 means giving young people a platform. That parallel makes it one of the easier abstract nouns to pick up.
The position word matters. You stand 在舞台上, on the stage, and Chinese needs that 上 where English can drop it. 在舞台 on its own sounds unfinished, so drill the whole phrase 在舞台上 as a unit.
