Buying with cash is a little cheaper.
现金 (xiàn jīn) is cash: physical notes and coins, as opposed to a card, a transfer or a phone payment. Shops announce 只收现金 or, far more often in mainland China now, that they would much rather you scanned a code.
The verbs it lives with are 付现金 (pay cash), 收现金 (accept cash) and 取现金 (withdraw cash). The card alternative is 刷卡, literally to swipe a card, and the two are the standard pair at a till.
The trap is assuming 现金 is the everyday word for money. That is 钱. 现金 specifically contrasts with other forms of payment, so 我没钱 means you are broke while 我没现金 only means you have nothing in your wallet.
