有雾(yǒu wù) - to be foggy in Mandarin

有雾 (yǒu wù) is to be foggy, from 有 (yǒu, to have, there is) and 雾 (wù, fog, mist). Literally it says "there is fog," which is how Chinese states most weather conditions that are not covered by 下 (xià, to fall) or 是 (shì, to be).

You will meet it in forecasts and travel warnings: 有雾的天气 (yǒu wù de tiānqì), foggy weather; 大雾 (dà wù), heavy fog, used as a noun on its own in headlines about flight delays.

Like 有雨 (yǒu yǔ, there is rain) and 有风 (yǒu fēng, there is wind), 有雾 (yǒu wù) treats the weather phenomenon as a thing that exists rather than an action that happens, which is a different logic from 下雨 (xiàyǔ, to rain) or 下雪 (xiàxuě, to snow), where the weather falls.
