脏(zāng) - dirty in Mandarin

脏 (zāng) means dirty, the plain opposite of 干净 (gānjìng), "clean". It works on clothes, water, hands, a room, more or less anything that can pick up grime.

One character, two very different traditional forms depending on the meaning: as "dirty", 脏 (zāng) simplifies 髒; the same simplified character 脏 also stands in for 臟 (zàng, note the different tone), the "organ" in words like 心脏 (xīnzàng), "heart". Simplified Chinese collapsed the two into one shape; traditional Chinese keeps them apart, so do not assume 脏/髒/臟 all mean the same thing just because a simplified text shows only one character.
