赚钱(zhuàn qián) - to make money, to be profitable in Mandarin

赚钱 (zhuàn qián) is to earn money, with a hint of profit rather than wages. A shop, a film or a whole industry can 赚钱, and so can a person. 这个工作很赚钱 says the job pays well; 那部电影很赚钱 says the film made money.

It is a verb plus its object, so it comes apart. Anything that describes how much goes in the middle: 赚了很多钱, 赚不到钱, 一天赚三百块. Writing 赚钱了很多 is the mistake a learner makes when treating it as one solid word.

The trap is 挣钱 (zhèng qián), which sounds close and means to earn by working, with the effort in view rather than the profit. A labourer 挣钱; an investor 赚钱. And 赚 is fourth tone, not the second tone of 转 (zhuǎn, to turn) that learners often reach for.
