The first words
The handful of words that appear in almost every English sentence: the articles and the words that point at things.
1 the Used before a noun when the listener already knows which person or thing you mean. article 6 a Used before a noun to talk about one person or thing for the first time, when it is not a special or known one. article 8 that Points to a person or thing further away, or the one already mentioned, and can also join two parts of a sentence. determiner 11 it Stands for a thing, an animal, or an idea already mentioned, and can also start a sentence about weather or time. pronoun 21 this Points to a person or thing that is near, or the one you are talking about right now. determiner 32 an Used before a noun that starts with a vowel sound to mean one of something. article 35 one The number 1, or a word that stands for a single thing already mentioned. pronoun 36 all The whole amount or every one of a group of things or people. pronoun 54 no Not any, or used to give a negative answer. determiner 64 some An amount or number that is not exact, a few or a little. determiner Lesson 3 · Vocabulary

Doing and being
The most common verbs. With these you can already say what people do and how things are.
2 be To exist, or to join a subject to a word that describes what or how it is. verb 9 have To own or hold something, or to help make a past tense (have, has, had). verb 19 do To carry out an action, and also a helper word used to make questions and negatives. verb 28 say To speak words, or to tell someone something using your voice. verb 47 get To receive or obtain something, or to become a certain way. verb 49 go To move or travel from one place to another. verb 53 like To enjoy someone or something, or to find them nice. verb 57 know To have information about something, or to be familiar with a person. verb 67 see To notice something with your eyes, or to understand it. verb 90 want To wish for or feel that you would like to have or do something. verb Lesson 7 · Vocabulary
Joining words
The small joining words - and, but, of, to - that hold a sentence together.
3 to Shows direction or a target, and also goes before a verb to make its basic form (the infinitive). preposition 4 of Shows that one thing belongs to, is part of, or comes from another. preposition 5 and Joins two words, phrases, or sentences together to add one to another. conjunction 7 in Shows that something is inside a place, time, or situation. preposition 12 for Shows who or what something is meant to help, or the reason or length of time for something. preposition 15 with Shows that people or things are together, or names the tool used to do something. preposition 22 but Joins two ideas to show a difference or a surprise between them. conjunction 31 or Used to show a choice between two or more things or actions. conjunction 41 so Used to show the result of something, meaning for that reason. conjunction 44 if Used to say that one thing depends on another thing being true. conjunction
