Translation
match, matchstick
Word origin
From French allumette, from allumer ('to light'), which goes back through Vulgar Latin to luminare and lumen ('light'). Esperanto lumo comes from that same lumen, so the match and the light it makes are relatives.

Examples
.
Without a match I cannot make a fire.
.
The match burned between his fingers.
.
She looked for a match for the candle.
The -eto at the end is a false seam. There is no root alum- here being made small: - is one indivisible root taken whole from French allumette, and any attempt to strip it leaves nothing usable behind. Keep it well away from aluminio as well, which looks similar and is a metal. A box of them is o, and you strike one with i .
