is intransitive and that is the whole lesson: the thing on fire is the subject, so and never . To burn something you need the causative i, and to set light to it i. English uses one verb for both directions, which is why this is among the most reliable slips a beginner makes. The root also gives brulo for a blaze, brulvundo for a burn injury and a for flammable.
