bovlo

This is the band's gift, so let us say it plainly: bovlo has nothing whatsoever to do with cattle. It is not bovo plus some -lo, because Esperanto has no -lo suffix, and a bowl is not a small ox, a place for oxen or a tool for oxen. The resemblance is an accident of two unrelated borrowings, one from Latin bos and one from English bowl, landing four letters apart.

That accident is worth a minute, because the affix system trains you to look for seams and this is what it feels like when the seam is imaginary. The test is meaning, not shape: if the parts you think you can see do not add up to what the word means, they are not parts. Bovlo is one root, bovl-, and only the -o comes off.

For the tableware around it: telero is a flat plate, taso a cup with a handle, glaso a drinking glass, and pelvo a larger basin, the thing you wash up in. Bovlo sits between the plate and the basin, and it is what you eat soup from.
