drinkejo

The register pair is the point of this word, so learn it here. Trinki is to drink: water, tea, milk, anything. Drinki is to drink alcohol. Both come from English, oddly enough - Esperanto took one word twice and gave the two spellings two jobs, which is tidier than English managed. A child trinkas and does not drinkas.

Then -ej- does what it always does: it names the place. Lerni gives lernejo a school, kuiri gives kuirejo a kitchen, drinki gives drinkejo the place where people drink alcohol - the pub, the bar, the village local. The suffix is one of the most useful in the language and it is completely regular.

Keep the tone honest. Drinki leans towards drinking more than is wise, and drinkulo is a drunkard, but drinkejo itself is neutral and cheerful: it is where you meet a friend after work and have one beer. If you want the coffee-and-cake version, that is a kafejo; if food is the main event, restoracio. And the more general trinkejo exists for a place that serves any drink at all, though almost nobody says it.
