church (the institution)
Word origin
From Greek ekklesia, an assembly, from ek meaning out and kalein meaning to call: the citizens called out to gather. Church Greek took the word for the body of believers, and it passed into Latin ecclesia and from there into French eglise and Spanish iglesia.

Examples
.
The church built a new church building in the village.
.
He served the church for many years.
.
Church and state are separate in that country.
Esperanto splits what English blurs. The is the building you walk into; the is the institution, the denomination, the body of people. Do not read the first two letters as the prefix -: is a single borrowed root, and there is no word lezio hiding inside it.
