Assembled in Esperanto from en- ('in') and konduki ('to lead'), which comes from Latin conducere, itself con- plus ducere ('to lead'). Latin built introducere out of the same pieces in the same order, so English introduce is a sibling rather than a parent.

A genuine affix build: - plus , lead-in. It covers leading a body into a room and bringing a practice, a law or a topic into use. What it does not cover is the social introduction, presenting one person to another: that is , and is a small comic disaster. The noun enkonduko is the introduction at the front of a book.
