Kilo Lingo

#795 of 5,000 Core 1000

Translation

to flow, to run (of liquid)

Examples

.

The river flows to the sea.

.

Water was running out of the old wall.

.

Tears ran down her cheeks.

.

Time flows too quickly.

.

The wine ran onto the table.

is intransitive: the liquid is the subject and there is no object. To make something flow out of a container you want , to pour. The noun fluo covers a current, a flow and, by extension, a trend, and enflui and elflui handle flowing in and out. The adverb flue gives you the other English sense, since speaking a language flue is speaking it fluently. Watch the accusative in the last example above: with -n means the wine ended up there, not that it was already on it.
