The full word is fotografaĵo, but like everyone else Esperantists clipped it, and is now the everyday form with foti as its verb. Note the idiom: you a photo in Esperanto, you do not "take" one, so "I took a photo of the house" is fotis or . A is any picture; a is specifically the camera-made kind.
