From French jupe, which came through Italian and Spanish from Arabic jubba, a long outer garment. English jumper, in the clothing sense, travelled the same road from the same Arabic word.

is the garment on its own, from the waist down. A robo is a dress, one piece from shoulder to hem, and the two are not interchangeable - a never covers the top half.
A false seam, and a spelling one. In Esperanto the letter j is doing two jobs: it is the consonant at the start of a word, and it is the plural ending at the end of one. So invites the reading j- plus upo, as though the j were a prefix. It is not. There is no prefix j- in Esperanto, upo is not a word, and - is one borrowed root. The plural puts a real grammatical j on the end of a root that already starts with a fake-looking one, which is worth reading aloud once: is wrong, has two ordinary j sounds.
Useful around it: o for a short skirt, subjupo for a petticoat. To wear one is porti - Esperanto uses the same verb for carrying and for wearing, so is unambiguous only from context, and nobody has ever been confused by it.
