Word origin
From French légume, from Latin legumen, the pulse crops such as beans and lentils. Legumen is usually traced to legere ('to gather'), the very verb that gave Esperanto legi, so the two words are distant relatives even though neither is built from the other.

Do not read a seam that is not there: is not plus anything, and it has nothing to do with reading. It is one borrowed root. Note too that Esperanto splits the plate the way most European languages do, against , so a tomato lands where your own language puts it and the argument is somebody else's problem.
