is transitive and takes the person, not the feeling, as its object: you offend someone, so . To say that you took offence, put the verb in the passive participle and let it describe you, as in or . The noun ofendo is the insult itself. Keep it apart from , which is being angry rather than being wronged, and note that is a good deal stronger than English offend in casual speech: it points at real injury to someone's dignity, not mild irritation.
