English splits this into shadow, the dark shape, and shade, the cool place out of the sun; Esperanto uses ombro for both and lets context sort it out. Ĵeti ombron is to cast a shadow, literally and figuratively, and en la ombro de works for standing in someone's shadow just as it does in English. Ombra means shady, ombri to shade, senombra without shadow. One warning: ombrelo, an umbrella, is a separate root that only looks like a relative.
