A is built to be looked at; a is built to be defended. Esperanto keeps that distinction cleanly, so a fairy tale will hand its princess a and its dragon a , and swapping them reads as a mistake rather than a synonym. The word stretches the same way it does in English, covering grand public buildings such as a kongresa , and it carries the same faint sarcasm when you use it of somebody's ordinary house.
