superulo

A person made out of a preposition. Super at 221 is above or over, -ul- makes a person characterised by whatever precedes it, and a superulo is therefore the person who is above you. English cannot do this. Superior is a whole separate Latin word that arrived pre-assembled, and nothing in it tells an English speaker that it has anything to do with super. Here you can see the machinery. The opposite is malsuperulo, a subordinate, built by putting the reversing prefix on the front and changing nothing else.

The -ul- machine, since this is a good place to look at it. The suffix takes an adjective and gives you the person who is that: juna gives junulo at 394, maljuna gives maljunulo at 535, fremda gives fremdulo at 585. It takes nouns too, and here it takes a preposition, which is the step that tends to surprise people. Anything that can describe a person can become the word for one. And watch for the trap in the other direction, one rank earlier in this same band: formulo is NOT form- plus -ul-, however much it looks like it.

Not the same as estro. An estro at 619 is the head of a thing - the boss, the leader, the one in charge of the office, the club, the ship. A superulo is relative: anyone standing above YOU in a hierarchy, which includes your immediate manager, their manager, and the colonel three ranks up whose name you do not know. Every estro is somebody's superulo; a superulo is not necessarily anybody's estro. In practice the word carries a faint whiff of the office and the barracks, and that is the register it belongs in.
