Inversion puts a -t- between two vowels

?

Has he finished?
Why?

When an inverted verb ends in a vowel and the pronoun is , or on, French slips in a -t-: -t-, a-t-, -t-on. Verbs ending in -t or -d need nothing: , -. In the the pronoun swaps with the auxiliary, not the participle: ?
