Le coup de téléphone

Story

Ce soir, Marie est à la maison. Elle entend le téléphone. C'est son amie Sophie qui appelle. Les deux femmes ne se parlent pas depuis longtemps. Marie est très heureuse.

This evening, Marie is at home. She hears the phone. It is her friend Sophie calling. The two women have not spoken to each other in ages. Marie is very happy.

"Allô ? Sophie, c'est toi ?" dit Marie. "Oui, c'est moi," dit Sophie. "Ça fait si longtemps ! Comment vas-tu ?"

"Hello? Sophie, is that you?" says Marie. "Yes, it's me," says Sophie. "It's been ages! How are you?"

"Je vais bien," dit Marie. "Et toi ? Et ta famille ?" Sophie parle de ses enfants. Elle a maintenant un petit garçon. Il a un an. "Le bébé ne dort pas la nuit," dit-elle. "Je dors très peu."

"I'm well," says Marie. "And you? And your family?" Sophie talks about her children. She now has a little boy. He is one year old. "The baby doesn't sleep at night," she says. "I sleep very little."

Marie comprend bien. Elle aussi a un enfant. "Et ton frère Paul ?" demande Marie. "Comment va-t-il ?" "Il va bien," dit Sophie. "Il a une nouvelle amie. Ils sont très heureux ensemble."

Marie understands well. She has a child too. "And your brother Paul?" asks Marie. "How is he?" "He's well," says Sophie. "He has a new girlfriend. They are very happy together."

Les deux amies parlent longtemps. Elles se souviennent de l'école. "Tu te souviens de notre voyage ?" demande Sophie. "Oui !" dit Marie. "Nous étions si jeunes. C'était il y a dix ans."

The two friends talk for ages. They remember school. "Do you remember our trip?" asks Sophie. "Yes!" says Marie. "We were so young. It was ten years ago."

"Nous avons fait beaucoup de choses ensemble," dit Marie. "Je pense souvent à ce temps." Sophie est d'accord. "Moi aussi. Mais nous ne nous voyons plus assez."

"We did a lot of things together," says Marie. "I often think about that time." Sophie agrees. "Me too. But we don't see each other enough any more."

"Alors, on se voit bientôt ?" demande Marie. "Oui !" dit Sophie. "La semaine prochaine ? Nous pouvons prendre un café en ville." "C'est une très bonne idée," dit Marie.

"So, shall we see each other soon?" asks Marie. "Yes!" says Sophie. "Next week? We can have a coffee in town." "That's a very good idea," says Marie.

"On peut aussi dîner ensemble," dit Sophie. "Je connais un bon endroit près de chez toi." "Parfait," dit Marie. "Je vais être là. Je ne peux pas attendre."

"We can have dinner together too," says Sophie. "I know a good place near your home." "Perfect," says Marie. "I'll be there. I can't wait."

Les deux amies parlent encore un peu. Puis Sophie dit : "Il est tard. Le petit m'appelle. Je dois y aller."

The two friends talk a little more. Then Sophie says: "It's late. The little one is calling me. I have to go."

"D'accord," dit Marie. "Merci d'avoir appelé. Ça m'a fait tellement plaisir." "À moi aussi," dit Sophie. "À la semaine prochaine !"

"All right," says Marie. "Thank you for calling. It made me so happy." "Me too," says Sophie. "See you next week!"

Marie garde le téléphone un moment dans sa main. Elle est heureuse. Elle pense à son amie, à leur voyage, à toutes ces années ensemble. Ce soir, un simple appel a changé sa journée.

Marie puts down the phone. She is happy. She thinks about her friend, about their trip, about all those years together. This evening, a simple call changed her day.
