Story

Aujourd'hui, Léo et Emma ne peuvent pas sortir. Dehors, l'eau tombe du ciel. Elle tombe fort, sur la terre, sur la porte, partout. Le ciel est noir et il fait froid. C'est une triste journée sans soleil.

Today, Léo and Emma cannot go outside. Outside, water is falling from the sky. It falls hard, on the ground, on the door, everywhere. The sky is black and it is cold. It is a gloomy day without sun.

"Il n'y a rien à faire," dit Emma. Elle est sous la table. Léo prend un livre, mais il n'aime pas lire. Emma veut dormir, mais elle ne peut pas. Les minutes passent très doucement. La journée ne finit pas.

"There is nothing to do," says Emma. She is under the table. Léo takes a book, but he does not like reading. Emma wants to sleep, but she cannot. The minutes pass very slowly. The day does not end.

Puis Emma a une idée. "Léo, regarde ! On va faire une maison, ici, sous la table. Avec des boîtes !" Les deux enfants prennent toutes les boîtes de la chambre. Une grande boîte ici, une petite boîte là. Ils font une maison de boîtes, et ils entrent dedans.

Then Emma has an idea. "Léo, look! We are going to make a house, here, under the table. With boxes!" The two children take all the boxes in the bedroom. A big box here, a small box there. They make a house of boxes, and they go inside.

Léo regarde dehors. L'eau tombe toujours. "Emma, il y a de l'eau partout. Notre maison n'est pas une maison. C'est un bateau !" Emma trouve ça très drôle. "Oui ! Et moi, je suis le chef." "Et moi, je suis le roi," dit Léo.

Léo looks outside. The water is still falling. "Emma, there is water everywhere. Our house is not a house. It is a boat!" Emma finds it very funny. "Yes! And I am the captain." "And I am the king," says Léo.

Les deux enfants jouent. Le bateau va sur l'eau, très loin. Ils cherchent de l'or. Emma fait une carte. "L'or est ici, sous la grande boîte." Léo cherche. "Je l'ai !" dit-il. Ils jouent une heure, puis deux heures. Dans le bateau, il fait chaud, et ils sont heureux.

The two children play. The boat goes on the water, very far. They look for gold. Emma makes a map. "The gold is here, under the big box." Léo searches. "I've got it!" he says. They play for an hour, then two hours. Inside the boat, it is warm, and they are happy.

Maman entre dans la salle. "Qu'est-ce que vous faites ?" "On est sur un bateau ! On cherche de l'or !" dit Léo. Maman regarde la maison de boîtes et trouve ça drôle. "C'est un beau bateau," dit-elle. Puis elle donne aux enfants quelque chose de chaud à boire.

Mum comes into the room. "What are you doing?" "We are on a boat! We are looking for gold!" says Léo. Mum looks at the house of boxes and finds it funny. "That is a beautiful boat," she says. Then she gives the children something warm to drink.

Le soir arrive. Dehors, l'eau tombe encore, mais les enfants ne la regardent plus. "C'est la meilleure journée du monde," dit Emma. Il fait noir dehors, mais dans la petite maison de boîtes, tout va bien. La triste journée sans soleil est devenue la plus belle journée de la semaine.

Evening comes. Outside, the water is still falling, but the children do not look at it any more. "This is the best day in the world," says Emma. It is dark outside, but inside the little house of boxes, all is well. The gloomy day without sun has become the most beautiful day of the week.
