l'
/ɔ.pɔʁ.ty.ni.te/
Translation
opportunity; the advisability or timeliness of something
Word origin
From Latin opportunitas, from opportunus ('favourable, seasonable'), built on ob ('towards') and portus ('harbour'). The original picture is of a wind blowing a ship straight into port, which is why the word still carries the sense of good timing as well as of a chance worth taking.
