appareo

Appareo, apparere, apparui, apparitum is second conjugation, ad- plus pareo, "be visible, obey". The perfect apparui is regular for the conjugation; the fourth principal part is rare enough that many dictionaries leave it off.

Two senses, and they behave differently. Personal appareo means "come into view", and takes a plain subject: sol apparet. Impersonal apparet means "it is evident" and governs an accusative and infinitive (apparet eum venisse) or an indirect question. In ecclesiastical Latin the first sense hardens into the technical one of a vision or apparition, which is where English gets apparition and, at an angle, apparent. Beware the false friend: apparent in English usually hints that something only seems true, whereas Latin apparet asserts flatly that it is.
