Descendo, descendere, descendi, descensum is third conjugation, de plus scando, "climb". The place left behind goes in de or ex with the ablative, de monte; the place reached goes in in or ad with the accusative. It covers coming down a hill, getting off a horse and, in the church writers, the Descent itself: descendit de caelis is a line of the Creed.
Two traps. The perfect descendi looks like a present to English eyes but is not, and descendit is either present or perfect depending on the length of the i, which manuscripts do not mark. English descend, descent and descendant all come through French from it.
