Ecclesia, ecclesiae is first declension feminine, borrowed whole from Greek ekklesia, "an assembly called out". In classical Greek it is the citizen assembly of a city state; Latin takes it over for the Christian community and only afterwards for the building the community meets in.

That order matters when translating. Ecclesia is the people first and the walls second, so a sentence about the ecclesia suffering or deciding something is not about masonry. The spelling trap is everywhere in this corpus: scribes write ecclesie for ecclesiae, because the ae diphthong had flattened to a plain e in speech by late antiquity, and the same manuscript will happily use both. Do not read ecclesie as a different case. Family: ecclesiasticus, ecclesiola. French église, Spanish iglesia, Italian chiesa; English ecclesiastical and, through Greek, the book of Ecclesiastes.
